Week 2 Reading Overview

 Indian Epics Reading Overview:

I am choosing the public domain edition of the Ramayana due to a couple reasons. One of the reasons i chose this over the other is because it has an audio option, which is very convenient as i do quite a bit of driving daily. The other reason is because it includes illustrations which i believe will be beneficial in making the story come to life.

Two comics:

Krishna: Retold From The Bhagawat Puran

This comic caught my eye because the description talks about Krishna's "miraculous birth" and later on talks about a battle with a serpent. It looks like an intriguing comic and I definitely would like to read more about Krishna's story and how his life played out.

Pareekshit: Son of Abhimanyu

I chose this comic because like the last one, it too has a story about a snake. The story revolves around a snake that will in one weeks time, attack a man, so the man builds a palace and recruits guards to protect him from its evil. The story is definitely interesting.

Two videos:

Symbols of Divinity | EPIFIED

This video stood out to me because i have always been interested in learning symbology and the different meanings that they all possess. In fact, this semester i am currently in a communications course and we talk about symbols and how they can be used as a way to communicate different ideas and beliefs, which i find really intriguing.

Sanskrit in 60 seconds | Epified

The video regarding Sanskrit caught my eye because I visit Pakistan often, and I have always wondered if there are any similarities between the native language of Pakistan, Urdu, and Sanskrit of India. Although I am not too sure if Sanskrit is still spoken/used, it is a neat thing to learn.

Time Strategies

 Time management issues

I will be the first to admit that I am a heavy procrastinator. I always wait until the last minute to do things, even though I always have this thought in the back of my mind that does not go away until i finish whatever it is i need to do. This voice in the back of my head stresses me out, but i somehow still choose to ignore it. I think if i paid more attention to the little voice telling me to finish my stuff earlier, i would be much better off and could actually enjoy my free time rather than think about what i should be doing. I will be attempting to change these habits, and i am glad that this blog post is making me write out my flaws in a concrete manner. I think that once i get the ball rolling i am able to fully achieve whatever it is i need to do, all i need is the little push.

This is how i feel when i have to do school work that i have been putting off for weeks.

Technology

I was never aware that there was a feature to create a folder for bookmarks, that is a life saver. The technology in this class is definitely more complicated than other courses, as those are solely on canvas, but that's to say that it is too difficult. I am enjoying exploring all the different features that we are able to take advantage of online. One thing I have always wanted to learn was photo editing, more specifically photoshop. I hope I can learn something about photo editing in this course!

Assignments

 Week 1 -

The course material for week 1 was very intriguing, and far more different than any class i have ever taken just based on structure. The whole blog idea was slightly complicated in the beginning but by the second or third blog post, it became super easy and fun! I am enjoying the course so far, it is less stressful and far more enjoyable than any of my other classes. I also love how open ended and flexible the whole course is! A lot of the extra credit assignments stood out to me as something I would definitely consider doing, especially the wikipedia trails. I always get myself lost in the rabbit hole of the internet, so this seems fun!

Here's a dog meme. Perhaps a dog wrote this very post;)

Growth Mindset, Week 1

The Growth Mindset

I am 110% the person that Carol Dweck refers to when she talks about people who are anti-growth mindset, but not by choice. I am very much a fan of what she is teaching but I find myself on the other end of the spectrum. Often times when i see things as a challenge i tend to shy away from them rather than attacking them. I think it is just because when I find something in school to be really difficult to me, I feel like i'm dumb or unintelligent. As a matter of fact, I took a physics course last semester that gave me this exact feeling. I took the course and questioned my intellectual capabilities, and it made me feel like I did not know anything, not just in physics. I believe I am this way because I like when things come easy, I like not having to struggle to achieve what I want to achieve. Maybe if I implemented some of her ideas my life would change, maybe I would achieve things that I never believed I could. I will try my best to implement some of her teachings into my life, as I am interested in how my life would differ if I did so.

The Growth Mindset, according to scholars, can lead to a more enlightened individual.

Introduction to just, ME!

 Introduction to: Saad

Hey everyone! My name is Saad and I am a junior here at OU majoring in psychology. I think the coolest thing about my major is that we get to learn about what processes occur in the minds of humans, and essentially why we do some of the things that we do. My favorite class I took last semester would probably have to have been US History, I loved learning about the history of this nation, and I was specifically interested in the Cold War. My greatest achievement from last semester is probably that I was able to get a good GPA. My favorite books are the Harry Potter series as well as my favorite movies, but some honorable mentions are Interstellar, The Dark Knight, and all of James Bond films. My favorite music is definitely in the rap and hip-hop genre, with artists such as Nav, Drake, and Lil Uzi Vert amongst many others. Unfortunately I do not have any pets, but in the future I would love to own a Labrador Retriever, my neighbor has one and they look like so much fun! My favorite place that I have visited so far had to be Rome, you can read more about it here. My favorite food is definitely chicken wings, I could eat them every day for the rest of my life. I also really enjoy eating anything unhealthy like fried chicken, cookies, brownies, and pizza. Hobbies of mine include watching/playing basketball, watching random videos on youtube, and fishing! If I had an extra day for fun I would most likely spend it somehow teleporting to Florida and going deep sea fishing with my friends! I enjoy fishing but I have never been deep sea fishing on a boat, it is one of the many things on my bucket list along with skydiving!

Here is a photo of a Labrador Retriever, my dog to be one day!

Storybook Favorites

 The Chivranjivi

The story that the author tells is about the Chivranjivi, which are seven living beings in Hinduism that are immortal and will live until the end of time. The author tells the stories of each of the seven individual beings in a very simplified and pleasurable manner, making the entire blog enjoyable but also informative. I found this blog interesting amongst the others due to the non-fictional nature of it, although i have nothing against fiction, i really enjoy learning things that are real concepts and ideas that different cultures possess. The format of the site is great as it contains images of all the seven beings, but my favorite part was the introduction tab that gave me an idea of what the whole project was about. It laid out what the significance of the beings was and how they relate to each other. It was an excellent project.

Race for the Prize

The author of this blog tells the story about weapons that are derived from Indian Mythology, and ties them back into a unique and captivating story based on the popular series "Indiana Jones". I found the idea of this blog super intriguing as it had a twist on one of my favorite series while at the same time incorporating history about ancient God's and weapons that they possessed. I have never learned about these mythical Gods and what power they wielded, but the stories are extremely informative yet fun at the same time. The introduction tab does a superb job of introducing the blog and summarizing what it is all about. I loved the way the author wrote the first paragraph finishing it out with, "But what if instead of these atomic weapons, the world searched out to find the true weapons of the gods?".

Khang's Storybook

The author of this storybook focuses on the Hindu belief of reincarnation, and how the way you live your current life can affect your next life. Reincarnation has always been an interesting topic to me so it was pretty neat learning about it through the use of stories, even if they had been dramatized and slightly altered. I still learned a good amount about reincarnation from the brief reading i did over the storybook, and i enjoyed it. The concept of reincarnation is very compelling, and i might make my storybook about it as well. The introduction tab did a great job in letting the reader know what the whole blog was about from a glimpse, and laid information out in a condensed manner which i enjoyed.

The idea of reincarnation is that one will live another life after their biological death, in a new body or form.

ROME! My favorite place.

MY FAVORITE PLACE:

ROME

My favorite place has to be Rome, Italy. The historical significance of the city alone deeply interests me along with the world-class art that is spread across the land, in many forms such as chapels, statues, paintings, fountains, and many many more. The image below depicts the famous Colosseum located in Rome, which was home to hundreds of gladiator games! Oh yeah, and the food in Rome is also delicious!
