Introduction to just, ME!

 Introduction to: Saad

Hey everyone! My name is Saad and I am a junior here at OU majoring in psychology. I think the coolest thing about my major is that we get to learn about what processes occur in the minds of humans, and essentially why we do some of the things that we do. My favorite class I took last semester would probably have to have been US History, I loved learning about the history of this nation, and I was specifically interested in the Cold War. My greatest achievement from last semester is probably that I was able to get a good GPA. My favorite books are the Harry Potter series as well as my favorite movies, but some honorable mentions are Interstellar, The Dark Knight, and all of James Bond films. My favorite music is definitely in the rap and hip-hop genre, with artists such as Nav, Drake, and Lil Uzi Vert amongst many others. Unfortunately I do not have any pets, but in the future I would love to own a Labrador Retriever, my neighbor has one and they look like so much fun! My favorite place that I have visited so far had to be Rome, you can read more about it here. My favorite food is definitely chicken wings, I could eat them every day for the rest of my life. I also really enjoy eating anything unhealthy like fried chicken, cookies, brownies, and pizza. Hobbies of mine include watching/playing basketball, watching random videos on youtube, and fishing! If I had an extra day for fun I would most likely spend it somehow teleporting to Florida and going deep sea fishing with my friends! I enjoy fishing but I have never been deep sea fishing on a boat, it is one of the many things on my bucket list along with skydiving!

Here is a photo of a Labrador Retriever, my dog to be one day!

  1. Welcome to the class, Saad! And there are so many great connections between Harry Potter stories and the world of the Indian Epics (just to take one obvious one: Nagini gets her name from the Nagas of Indian storytelling- link!) ... plus I am so intrigued by the idea of a James Bond type of story: it would be fun to imagine some mystery with clues from the epics taking place in India, so that James Bond could do his Bond-thing in some of the epic places of India -- in fact, this huge conflict between India and China right now is happening near the sacred places of Lake Manasarovar- link and Mount Kailash -link, abode of Shiva... maybe you could do a Bond-inspired Storybook for this class based on that. People have done some great Harry Potter projects before, and Indiana Jones... but never James Bond! Here's a news feed about what's going on right now: Chinese Missile Deployment At Kailash-Mansarovar - link ... ancient places, modern news!

  2. Hi, Saad!

I've enjoyed Psychology for quite some time now, especially since I got my hands on the Rathus textbook a few years back. But particularly for me as an educator, I really enjoy delving into educational psychology! I'm always trying to learn how to better myself and better my teaching. I totally subscribe to the philosophy of being a "lifelong student", which I absolutely love!

Post-Civil War US History is such an interesting subject! Though I do wonder when they will eventually break it off and start developing material for a 3rd course (perhaps post-COVID LOL)? Either way, it's good to learn about the whole truth of our history!

    Cheers,
    Chris

  3. Hey Saad,

I took the intro to psychology class my first year at OU and it was easily one of my most enjoyable classes. If I had not had dentistry in mind majoring in psychology would have definitely been a possibility. I find all of your favorite music artists great. Drake, NAV, and Lil Uzi are some of my favorite artists as well. NAV and Uzi have a few songs together I really like. Chicken wings are also one of my favorite foods and I talked about as well in my intro post. If you are looking for a good place I would try Tez Wings in Midwest City.

  4. Hello Saad,
Psychology is one of the most interesting majors in my opinion. I had a great time taking the introduction to Psychology class here at the University. I saw that you are interested in both History and the Cold War. Did you know that there is a Cold War Science class that is offered at the University? I'm a history buff as well and I thought it would be nice to take it.

  5. Hi Saad! I am also a psychology major, and I agree that one of the coolest parts of the major is learning how humans interact and think. It was astonishing to me how we are not all that different! I also like to listen to rap and Drake and Lil Uzi are some of my favorite artists as well! Overall, I hope you have a great semester!

  6. Hi Saad!

Psychology is an intriguing discipline. It is nice to see how many different types of psychologists there are like sports and clinical. I'm glad you were able to keep a good GPA last semester through a pandemic. Also, it seems like we have a similar preference in music. I appreciate a lot of Lil Uzi's music. I hope you end up owning a Labrador.

  7. Hi Saad! Psychology is my minor and I totally align with you on the fact that it is super interesting to learn about why we do the things we do. I can also relate to liking basically anything that is unhealthy.. but I try to limit myself just a smidge! One of my very best friends has a labrador retriever and he is so cute, cuddly, and full of energy to play!!

  8. Hi Saad!

I really like your enthusiasm to learn!! I am a Neurobiosciences and Human Behavior major, so I relate to the interest in knowing how and why people think the way that they do. Congratulations on your high GPA - that is no small feat in college!! Especially with everything online and crazy this semester, I hope that you are able to keep your trend going. It is nice to meet you!

  9. Hi Saad!

I am also a psychology major, I think our major is super cool and fun too! Like you, I was also able to achieve a good GPA last semester. After dealing with some pretty life altering events, it was about time something went my way! Labrador retrievers are the sweetest and most fun dogs you can adopt! I had one that looks almost like your picture, her name was Molly. Unfortunately we lost Molly in 2018 due to cancer, but we remember her everyday. Fortunately for us, we thought the time was right to get a new dog and the stars seemed to align, we got a chocolate lab, her name is Coco. If you want a lab one day, I think they’re amazing, but I may be a bit biased! Good luck in this class, I’m sure you will do great!

I love how you would like to go deep see fishing in Florida because I love fishing and have never been to Florida either! Maybe I can get an invite when you teleport?

  11. Hey Saad! That is great that your a psych major and it is cool that it provides you an opportunity to learn more about the processes of how our minds work! I have just finished watching the whole Harry Potter series with my boyfriend during this quarantine and I have really loved them. My boyfriend really loves them and im glad he got me into it as well! Great job on your post and I hope you have a great semester!

  12. Hi Saad,
Congrats on your good GPA! That's a difficult achievement. I hope you can finish strong, you're getting close!
I love Harry Potter. Have you seen A Very Potter Musical by Starkid? I recommend. It is on YouTube and the filming quality isn't great but it's iconic. Darren Criss plays Harry. It is sort of a musical parody of Harry Potter, but made by fans, for fans.
My favorite movie is the 6th because of how SASSY Harry is. It's probably my favorite book too. Now I want to reread the series!

  13. Hi Saad,
Psychology sounds like a really cool major! I like that you lumped all the foods you like into the category of "unhealthy food". I know what you mean, but that's kind of a funny way to describe them. I agree with you about liking junk food, but sometimes chicken wings have little hairs stuck on them if you look closely enough and that bothers me immensely. Congrats on your good grades last semester!
